How being a “new creature” turbocharges your Christian Example

The Salvation Experience is a turning point in anyone’s Christian walk. Its the point at which our Christian journey begins. In many ways its like having a second birthday. The Bible tells us much of the importance of this change. Look for instance at what we’re told at 1 John 5:4-5 “because everyone who is born from God defeats the world. And this is the victory that has defeated the world:our faith. Who defeats the world ? Isn’t it the one who believes that Jesus is God’s son ?”
So it all begins with our faith in Jesus, and our belief in him as the son of God. Now lets look at 2 Corinthians 5:17 “ So then , If anyone is in Christ that person is part of the new creation. The old things have gone away, and look, new things have arrived !” I note that scripture doesn’t say you will become a new person. It says that you will become something completely different all together. Something more Spirit and spiritual before. It shouldn’t even be possible to be saved and keep doing all the same things the same ways you did before. Remember that 2 Corinthians that old things have fallen away. So it is clear to see that after we are saved neither we or our lives are ever meant to be the same again !
So how does all of this relate to our Christian example ? First of all the change in us is not subtle. But very obvious to those around us. We all have many more seeing us, and being impacted by our example good or bad than we realize. This is partly due to the idea that our example spreads out like the ripples in a pond when you toss a stone into it. We only see the people we affect directly. Look at social media. When I post this article, and other things to Facebook or Twitter my contacts obviously see what I post. However, if they are especially struck by what I post they can “share” it on Facebook or “retweet” it on Twitter. When they do, what I have to say is seen by all their contacts as well. I have seen weeks where people’s retweets of what I have posted have been seen by hundreds of thousands of people ! The real world works much the same way. When people observe your example good or bad they may be impacted by it. If they are moved enough by it they will tell those they know about it. In this way your example will affect many more people than you realize. So when you become more Christian in your attitudes and actions, the change you make affects those around you as well.
So what happens is when you are saved, you become something new all together. Afterward your example of how you now face what life throws at you becomes appealing to many. They want to know the source of the strength, wisdom and other qualities that enable you to face the struggles of life easier than before. This leads them to Christ just as it did for you. This is why example is one of the three vital ministries of the average Christian. What’s really cool is it is a ministry you do without even trying or meaning to.
