A Murderer and a Minister are ‘Set Free’ in Moving Works’ Latest Documentary

AUSTIN, Texas, Jan. 26, 2015 /Christian Newswire/ — Christopher LaPel was a young man when he escaped the clutches of the Khmer Rouge regime in the late 1970’s. Nearly wasting away in a labor camp, LePel fled for his life and eventually found refuge in the United States. Upon receiving his freedom, LaPel knew that one day that he’d return to Cambodia to minister to those left behind. What he could not anticipate was crossing paths with one of the most feared men in the country’s dark history when he did.

Moving Works’ latest documentary, The Foremost, chronicles LaPel as he recounts his chilling past as a captive of the Khmer Rouge regime and gives an intimate look at his relationship with the man responsible for the death of many of his friends and family.

“It’s honestly one of the most amazing stories of forgiveness that I’ve ever heard and it truly caused me to wrestle with my own understanding of God’s love and grace,” says the film’s director, Peter Craig.

The film takes an unflinching look at the suffering and brutality overseen by a high-ranking officer of the Khmer Rouge and how he deals with the consequences of serving the radical Communist regime responsible for the genocide of over 2.5 million Cambodians from 1975 to 1979.

Highlighted in news outlets across the globe, including Time Magazine, this honest and hope-filled story will challenge your views on injustice, forgiveness, and grace no matter what you believe. Available to stream or download at movingworks.org on January 29. Preview available here.
