Are You Too Small For God To Notice ?

Over one hundred years ago a hymn was written, that has become one of the most popular hymns of all times, especially in African-American churches. That song ? “His eye is on the sparrow.” One of the most important things to note here is that sparrows are one of the smallest birds in all of creation. They are so small, and thought to be so insignificant that in the first century several were sold as a “bundle” for a tiny sum.
The song’s scriptural roots come from Mathew 10. Lets look at what it says beginning with verse 27 “ What I say to you in the darkness, tell in the light; and what you hear whispered announce from the rooftops. Don’t be afraid of those you can kill the body but can’t kill the soul. Instead, be afraid of the one who can destroy both body and soul in Hell. Aren’t two sparrows sold for a small coin ? But not one of them will fall to the ground without your father knowing about it already. Even the hairs of your head are all counted. Don’t be afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows. “ (CEB) These words come from Christ, the Son of God himself. Our own savior tells us from firsthand knowledge that none of us are too small for God to notice ! Even more, no circumstance we can encounter in life is too insignificant to warrant his concern ! Its just not possible !
Don’t underestimate the importance of this point. What Christ said on this occasion was so important that not only Mathew, but also Luke his fellow apostle recorded the same remarks in his own gospel. Luke’s account is found in Luke 12:3-7 “ … I tell you my friends don’t be terrified by those who can kill the body but after that can do nothing more. I’ll show you whom you should fear: fear the one who, that after you have been killed has the authority to throw you into Hell. Indeed, I tell you, that’s the one you should fear. Aren’t five sparrows sold for two small coins ? Yet not one of the is overlooked by God. Even the hairs on your head are all counted. Don’t be afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows.” (CEB)
So even with over eight billion people on this earth right now, even with countless billions of people who have gone before God through his son says none of us are too small. He goes further to tell us not only that but no aspect of our existence is unworthy of his active attention. God is not only aware of you, but every minute aspect of your current situation ! As Frank Shelton, Fox News contributor and author of Carrying Greatness often says “ God doesn’t make junk !”
There are no throw away people in God’s world. Are you, your struggles too small for God ? Not a chance !
