The Aleppo Codex is a medieval manuscript of the Hebrew Bible (Tanakh), associated with Rabbi Aaron Ben Asher. The Masoretic scholars wrote it in the early 10th century, probably in Tiberias, Israel. It is in book form and contains the vowel points and grammar points (nikkudot) that specify the pronunciation of the ancient Hebrew letters to preserve the chanting tradition. It is perhaps the most historically important Hebrew manuscript in existence. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Obviously there was no Memorial Day in the first century when the bible was written. However the bible does speak of the sense of duty, and sacrifice that we honor this day each year. I hope these verses will help you keep the true meaning of today in focus, and to involve God in your celebrations.

“If the lookout sees the sword coming but doesn’t blow the trumpet to warn the people, when the sword comes and takes away any of them, they are taken away in their sin, But I’ll hold the lookout responsible for their blood.”

Ezekiel 33:6 ( Common English Bible)

“No one has greater love than to give up one’s life for one’s friends.”

John 15:13 (Common English Bible)

“This is how we know Love:Jesus laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.”

1 John 3:16 (Common English Bible)

“ There was fierce warfare against the Philistines throughout Saul’s lifetime. So whenever Saul saw any strong or heroic man, he would add him to his troops.”

1 Samuel 14:52 ( Common English Bible)

“If an army camps against me, I will not be afraid. If war comes up against me, I will continue to trust in this: I have asked one thing from the Lord-it’s all I seek-to live in the Lord’s House all the days of my life.”

Psalms 27:3-4 (Common English Bible)

  1. It was an honor to be with you and watch you minister with such deep love and care to the people, whom the world tends to forget. I am trying to share your post on facebook. But there seems to be some problem. Anyhow. Be blessed Reverend and Happy Memorial Day to you and to America.
